Storm & Hail Damage

Emergency Roof Repair

Hail damage to a roof is a common concern that can have substantial consequences for homeowners in San Antonio. The impact of hail hitting a roof whether it’s shingles or metal panels can result in various types of damage. One of the most notable signs of hail damage to shingles is dented or bruised shingles, due to the force of the hail hitting the roof has compromised the structural integrity and breached the protective surface of the shingle. These damages may appear minor but can lead to more severe issues if not addressed promptly.

Hail damage can affect the granules on asphalt shingles. The granules act as a protective layer, shielding the shingles from UV rays and other environmental factors. When hail strikes remove the granules, it exposes the underlying material to accelerated wear and deterioration. This compromises the overall lifespan of the roof. This may also cause cracks or punctures in the roofing material. For asphalt shingles this could also split or tear, allowing water to to seep and can potentially lead to leaking. Metal roofs while durable can be damaged and dented which can affect their water shedding abilities.  This can increase the risk of water leaks posing a threat to the home's structural integrity. Flashing, gutter and vents may also be damaged affecting their ability to channel water away from the roof effectively and my also add to water pooling which would further increase the risk of leaks and water damage.

Even if it doesn't seem like your roof was damaged after a hailstorm there's really no way of knowing without getting a roof inspection from your local, trusted roofer. Homeowners may not notice right away the damage their roof has until weeks or months after the hailstorm. It is always a safe bet to have your roof inspected right after a hailstorm.  The inspection is free and by detecting the damages early on can prevent further deterioration.

Wind and rain can cause significant damage to a roof and detecting the damage early can help prevent further damage if left untreated.

Strong winds can cause shingles to left and even blow off, leaving the roof exposed to rain and snow. This can lead to leaks, water damage and even mold growth inside the building.  Additionally, wind can create pressure differences that can cause the roof to lift which can lead to structural damage and potentially collapse.

Rain can also cause significant damage to a roof, especially if it's not properly maintained. Water can seep through cracks or gaps in the roof causing damage to the underlying structure and insulation. Over time this can lead to rot, decay and even the growth of dangerous mold and mildew. It is essential to have your roof inspected after storms or if you notice something while looking at your roof. When damages are caught early it can increase the lifespan of your roof.
